Lowe-Martin has been recognized as an industry leader for encouraging investment in greener processes. We share ideas and best practices with our customers. We believe that environmental sustainability truly does provide a competitive advantage.
Lowe-Martin was presented with the Gold Award as the Most Environmentally Progressive Printing Company at the Canadian Printing Awards Gala in November 2016. Lowe-Martin was recognized for our Carbon Management and use of greener alternatives like 100% renewable electricity from Bullfrog Power. In 2016, Lowe-Martin reduced the absolute carbon emissions of our Mississauga operations by 20% and purchased carbon offsets for the remaining balance to achieve Carbon Neutrality. Our Ottawa plants increased the number of Carbon Neutral projects produced for our customers and purchased 120% more carbon offsets. Overall, we reduced our electricity consumption by 8.6% while increasing our volume of work year over year.
We've been at the forefront of the green printing revolution for over a decade, so you can rest assured that your needs (and those of our planet) are in good hands. We are deeply honoured to be recognized for our efforts and are committed to living up to the expectations associated with such recognition.

On May 18, 2011, Lowe-Martin's Mississauga operations facility became carbon neutral. Lowe-Martin has partnered with Carbonzero in order to produce measurable, verified emissions reductions that will support and provide the host communities of Toronto and Montreal with clear environmental, economic and social benefits.Lowe-Martin works with Carbonzero in order to verify the emissions calculated through the collection of our annual greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory. In addition we offer our customers the ability to produce "Carbonzero Certified" print projects. Lowe-Martin tracks and calculates the emissions associated with our customers print projects. These calculations are verified by Carbonzero and offsets are purchased on behalf of our customer.
On November 1, 2007, Lowe-Martin became Bullfrog Powered. Lowe-Martin joined the growing list of Canadian businesses that are showing their support for the supply and development of green power. We are the largest print manufacturing purchaser of Bullfrog Power in Canada. Lowe-Martin carefully considers its ecological impact and its responsibility to the environment. With the help of Bullfrog Power, we can offer our clients printed materials produced with clean, renewable, emissions-free power that drastically reduces traditional power usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
In an effort to improve our environmental practices, Lowe-Martin has continuously received and maintained certification from the Forest Stewardship Council's ® (FSC®) Chain of Custody program since March 2003. FSC® sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial and economically viable way.
Lowe-Martin strongly believes in the importance of preserving the environment and has therefore committed itself to developing practices that conform to the Chain of Custody certification. FSC® paper used by Lowe-Martin is properly identified, tracked and handled during production. This process allows Lowe-Martin to provide high quality products while presenting customers with the option of supporting sound environmental practices.
Ancient and Endangered Forests: Lowe-Martin is working with not-for-profit Canopy to encourage governments and the forestry sector to support and advance protection of the world’s ancient and endangered forests. We are committed and proud to contribute to the creation of conservation legacies in these landscapes of hope.
Forest hotspots: Lowe-Martin is conscious of the impacts of sourcing decisions on endangered species, high conservation value forests, communities and climate, in places like the Boreal and the Broadback Forest, Coastal Temperate Rainforests and Indonesian Rainforests. We are working closely with not-for-profit Canopy on policy implementation to ensure we carefully assess our fibre sourcing to avoid ancient and endangered forest regions.
Second Harvest: Lowe-Martin is committed to the conservation of the world’s ancient and endangered forest ecosystems. As part of that commitment, we strongly support the North American commercial scale development of pulp, paper and packaging alternatives that are derived from agricultural residues like wheat straw as a way to diversity the fiber basket and meet our continued need for high quality, cost effective products.
